Articles
Article 1
Purpose. This Agreement stipulates principles, rules, and measures concerning the control of the import, export, and transit of live animals and animal products in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, in order to prevent and halt the introduction, breeding, spread, and prevalence of animal diseases, aiming to protect the life and health safety of humans, animals, and the environment, and to contribute to the coordinated and effective implementation of the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and relevant international conventions.
Article 2
Import, Export, and Transit of Animals and Animal Products. Import of animals and animal products refers to the process by which the livestock and veterinary work management authority handles various licensing steps for individuals, legal entities, or organizations to bring animals or animal products from abroad into the Lao People's Democratic Republic via veterinary checkpoints. Export of animals and animal products refers to the process by which the livestock and veterinary work management authority handles various licensing steps for individuals, legal entities, or organizations to take animals or animal products from the Lao People's Democratic Republic abroad via veterinary checkpoints. Transit of animals and animal products refers to the process by which the livestock and veterinary work management authority handles various licensing steps for individuals, legal entities, or organizations to transport animals or animal products through the Lao People's Democratic Republic to a third country via veterinary checkpoints.
