Articles

Article 1

Purpose. This Decree aims to establish the Nakai–Nam Theun National Park for the management and protection of the environment, forests, forest resources, aquatic animals and wildlife, as well as river sources, to preserve the beauty of natural landscapes, historical sites, and culture, serving as a place for recreation, tourism, and scientific research, contributing to improving the people's livelihood and developing the economy and society in a green and sustainable direction.

Article 2

Location, Boundaries, and Area of Nakai-Nam Theun National Park. Nakai-Nam Theun National Park is located in Khammouane Province, covering three districts: Nakai District, Yommalath District, and Borapha District; and Khamkeut District of Bolikhamxay Province. Its coordinates are as follows: Northern boundary: longitude 105°09′37.3″, latitude 18°23′21.3″; Eastern boundary: longitude 105°38′36.4″, latitude 17°59′18.4″; Southern boundary: longitude 105°25′50.7″, latitude 17°35′24.9″; Western boundary: longitude 104°47′21.4″, latitude 18°01′48.4″. The boundaries of Nakai-Nam Theun National Park shall be based on a topographic map at a scale of 1:100,000, using latitude and longitude lines, and cross-referenced with the actual terrain, using landmarks such as ridges (watersheds), streams, rivers, and roads, so that local administrative organs and the people of all ethnic groups are informed and cooperate well in management, protection, and development. The total area of Nakai-Nam Theun National Park is 427,770 hectares (four hundred twenty-seven thousand seven hundred seventy hectares), of which 364,150 hectares (three hundred sixty-four thousand one hundred fifty hectares) are in Khammouane Province and 63,620 hectares (sixty-three thousand six hundred twenty hectares) are in Bolikhamxay Province. The location and area of Nakai-Nam Theun National Park are indicated on the map at a scale of 1:350,000 attached to this Order.

Article 3

Management. The management body of the Nakai-Nam Theun National Park, namely the Nam Theun 2 Watershed Management and Protection Authority as stipulated in the Prime Minister's Decree No. 122/PM, dated April 21, 2017, is renamed as follows: 1. The "Nam Theun 2 Watershed Management and Protection Authority Council" is renamed the "Nakai-Nam Theun National Park Management Committee"; 2. The "Nam Theun 2 Watershed Management and Protection Authority Secretariat" is renamed the "Nakai-Nam Theun National Park Administration Office".
