Article 1

[General Provisions · Purpose] These Guidelines stipulate the principles, regulations, and procedures for the People’s Courts to review the results of economic dispute resolution made by relevant institutions within the country and in foreign or international contexts, aiming to ensure that the People’s Courts perform their duties smoothly, promptly, uniformly, effectively, and correctly, in compliance with laws and regulations, in order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the parties, promote social peace, and foster sustained economic growth.

Article 2

[Review by the People’s Court of Economic Dispute Resolution Outcomes] The review by the People’s Court of economic dispute resolution outcomes refers to the People’s Court making a ruling on its review of the outcomes of economic dispute resolution made by relevant institutions domestically, in foreign countries, or internationally.

Article 3

[Definition of Terms] The terms used in this Guidance have the following meanings: 3.1 People's Court with authority to review the outcome of economic dispute resolution refers to the People's Court of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; 3.2 Ruling of the People's Court refers to documents of the People's Court, including: orders, final decisions, judgments, and rulings of the People's Court; 3.3 Confirmation or non-confirmation by the People's Court refers to the final decision of the People's Court regarding the outcome of domestic economic dispute resolution; 3.4 Confirmation refers to the recognition of lawful and correct outcomes of domestic economic dispute resolution; 3.5 Non-confirmation refers to the non-recognition of incorrect outcomes of domestic economic dispute resolution; 3.6 Outcome of domestic economic dispute resolution refers to agreements between parties during mediation, agreements between parties prior to arbitration, and awards by arbitrators; 3.7 Arbitrator refers to a person or committee selected by the parties or by an economic dispute resolution institution; 3.8 Economic dispute resolution institution refers to economic dispute resolution centers and offices; 3.9 Recognition or non-recognition by the People's Court refers to the ruling or judgment of the People's Court regarding the outcome of foreign or international arbitral awards; 3.10 Recognition refers to the recognition of lawful and correct foreign or international arbitral awards; 3.11 Non-recognition refers to the non-recognition of incorrect foreign or international arbitral awards; 3.12 Outcome of foreign or international arbitral awards refers to awards by foreign or international arbitrators; 3.13 Foreign or international economic dispute resolution institution refers to an organization or legal entity lawfully established and authorized to resolve foreign or international commercial or trade disputes; 3.14 Application submitted to the People's Court refers to a request by a party for the People's Court of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to review and enforce the outcome of economic dispute resolution; 3.15 Proposal submitted to the People's Court refers to a party's submission to the People's Court of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to review and challenge an arbitrator's award; 3.16 Party refers to the opposing party in an economic dispute, including the applicant, the respondent, and third parties.
