Article 1
Article 1 (Amended) Purpose
This Law stipulates principles, regulations, and measures regarding the organization, activities, management, and supervision of the work of the Lao Women’s Union, in order to enable the Lao Women’s Union to exercise its powers, perform its duties, functions, and obligations more efficiently, effectively, and robustly, aiming to safeguard the development and legitimate rights and interests of members of the Lao Women’s Union and Lao women of all ethnic groups nationwide, and to participate in the maintenance and development of the nation.
Article 2
Article 2 (Amended). The Lao Women's Union
The Lao Women's Union is a mass organization within the political system of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, serving as the representative body for the legitimate rights and interests of its members and Lao women of all ethnic groups nationwide, operating under the Constitution and laws of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
The Lao Women's Union is abbreviated as "LWU."
Article 3
Article 3 (Amended) Interpretation of Terms
The terms used in this Law shall have the following meanings:
1. Lao women means women who hold Lao nationality and live within or outside the country;
2. Executive Committee of the Lao Women's Union means the leadership committee of the Lao Women's Union elected at congresses of the Lao Women's Union at all levels;
3. Member of the Executive Committee of the Lao Women's Union means a person who is not the President or Vice President within the Executive Committee of the Lao Women's Union at all levels;
4. Advancement of Lao women means creating conditions and providing opportunities for Lao women to develop in all aspects;
5. Protection of the rights and interests of Lao women means preventing violations of rights and interests, enabling Lao women to obtain legitimate rights and interests in all areas, particularly in politics, economy, culture, society, as well as community and family;
6. Political-social organizations means the Lao Front for National Construction, the Lao Veterans' Federation, the Lao Trade Union, the Lao Women's Union, and the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union;
7. Social organizations means federations, associations, foundations, clubs, and other organizations established in accordance with laws and regulations;
8. Grassroots Lao Women's Union means the women's union organization established in villages, government agencies, institutions, schools, hospitals, enterprises, factories, and other work units;
9. Vertical means the Lao Women's Union at all levels from the central to the grassroots level;
10. Horizontal means the party committee at the same level to which the Lao Women's Union at each level is affiliated;
11. Membership fees means funds collected from members of the Lao Women's Union and remitted to women's union organizations at all levels in accordance with the regulations of the Lao Women's Union.
