Article 2 Water and Water Resources Protection Zone
Water and Water Resources Protection Zone is an area reserved to protect the quality and quantity of water for consumption and use, prevent floods and droughts, conserve aquatic plants and animals, ecosystems, natural heritage values, history, culture, tourism, education, research and scientific experiments, which such protection zone has been incorporated into the land allocation plan, comprehensive management of natural resources and environment.

Article 2 Definition of Terms
1. Protected area means an area reserved for the management of water and water resources, conservation of nature, protection of flora, fauna, ecosystems, and objects of natural, historical, cultural, tourism, environmental, educational, and scientific experimental value;
2. Ecosystem means the interrelationship between living and non-living things that exist naturally;
3. Biodiversity means the diversity of ecosystems, species, and varieties of living things such as plants, animals, insects, and microorganisms within a given natural area;
4. Boundary marker means a marker placed at the corner points of the land boundary of a water and water resources protected area to serve as evidence and reference points for surveying, measuring, and mapping the land of the water and water resources protected area;
5. Map scale means the ratio between the distance on a paper map and the actual distance on the earth's surface and objects, based on the work to be used.

Article 4 Scope of Application
This agreement applies to individuals, legal entities, and domestic and foreign organizations living and operating in the Lao PDR.
