Article 2 Forest Carbon Management
Forest carbon management is the management of activities related to forest carbon, project development and implementation, marketing, social and environmental safeguard policies, participation, benefit-sharing in accordance with international standards, and in compliance with the laws and regulations of the Lao PDR.

Article 2 Interpretation of Terms
The terms used in this agreement have the following meanings:
1. Government-partnered forest carbon project area means forest land that the investor has been authorized by the government to conduct forest carbon business, but not a forest land concession, which is different from lease-concession investment areas, mineral extraction or hydropower development;
2. Recognition of others' rights in the project area means recognition of the rights of individuals, legal entities or organizations that have contributed to forest restoration and tree planting generating carbon credits in the project area, and ensuring the sharing of benefits from the sale of forest carbon to such right holders;
3. Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation means reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. The plus sign (+) means forest and forest land activities, which are the management, protection, development and sustainable use of forests and forest land for the purpose of forest carbon sequestration;
4. Forest carbon means carbon dioxide (CO2) that forests can absorb, calculated in tons per hectare;
5. Forest carbon credit means the amount of emission reductions, removals and sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) calculated in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) from various projects or activities, and has been certified for the amount of emission reductions, removals and sequestration to contribute to greenhouse gas reduction, exchange and trading of forest carbon credits in accordance with greenhouse gas reduction standards;
6. Forest carbon certification means forest carbon that has been inspected and certified by an international organization;
7. Forest carbon ownership right means the legal right to carbon credits produced from investment, contribution to the implementation of a forest carbon project, acquired through purchase or transfer from others;
8. Carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption means the reduction of greenhouse gases through the absorption and sequestration of carbon dioxide by trees, plants and forests;
9. Ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) means the standard unit used to measure the amount of greenhouse gases and can be applied to all types of greenhouse gases by comparison;
10. Independent forest carbon certification body means a body with expertise in calculating and certifying the amount of emission reductions, removals and sequestration of greenhouse gases that is internationally recognized and accredited;
11. Forest carbon project certificate means the primary document certifying the rights of the forest carbon project owner, and the forest carbon project certificate is valid for the duration of the project or as agreed in the contract;
12. Corresponding Adjustment means the mechanism for approving and certifying the adjustment of a contract where one contracting party intentionally transfers forest carbon to its contracting party in accordance with international standards.
