Article 1
Article 1 Purpose
This Law prescribes principles, rules, and measures regarding the management, supervision, and inspection of national border work, so that such work is implemented uniformly nationwide, aiming to ensure the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability of the national borders, to build national borders into peaceful, stable, friendly, cooperative, and sustainably developing borders with neighboring countries, and to contribute to the defense and development of the nation.

Article 2. National Boundaries
National boundaries refer to the lines delimiting the territorial extent of the land, subsoil, waters, and airspace of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, as well as the vertical plane along those lines.
National boundaries are determined by boundary treaties between the Lao People's Democratic Republic and neighboring states as contracting parties, and by the system of boundary markers located on the ground. In cases where the national boundary between the Lao People's Democratic Republic and any neighboring state has not yet been formally delimited in accordance with international law, a treaty shall be concluded with that neighboring state to delimit the national boundary.
